A high risk of wildfires is forecast for today, Thursday, in several parts of Greece, according to the Fire Risk Forecast Map issued by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection under the Ministry for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr).

Authorities have placed eight regions on heightened alert for June 19, as the potential for wildfires is rated at level 3. According to the daily risk forecast, the areas facing increased threat include the mainland regions of Attica, Argolida, Viotia, Corinthia, Evia, as well as the islands of Lesvos, Chios, and Psara, in the Aegean, where current weather conditions significantly favor the ignition and spread of wildfires.

Civil protection services are urging the public to exercise extreme caution and to strictly avoid any activities that could trigger a fire in outdoor or rural areas.

Understanding the Fire Risk Levels

The fire risk map features five categories, each marked by a color code:
1. Green – Low Risk
2. Blue – Moderate Risk
3. Yellow – High Risk
4. Orange – Very High Risk
5. Red – Extreme Risk
