Panathinaikos FC was drawn to play against Scotland’s Rangers in the second qualifying round for the UEFA Champions League at the 2025/26 event in Nyon, Switzerland, on Wednesday afternoon.

If the Greens, who finished second in the country’s league, manage to advance to the third qualifying round in Europe’s top club competition, they will be placed in the seeded group, meaning they will theoretically face a less formidable opponent before the ultimate goal of reaching the group stage.

The first leg is scheduled for July 22-23 in Scotland, with the return leg to be played in Athens on July 29-30.

Panathinaikos has met the Scottish club four times in the past and remains unbeaten, with a record of 1 win and 3 draws (1-3-0), despite having been eliminated on one occasion.

During the 2003/04 season, the two clubs were drawn into the same Champions League group, with the first match in Athens ending in a draw (1-1.)

In the second leg, played on February 13, 2004, at Ibrox Stadium, the two sides were battling for third place in the group—a spot that led to the UEFA Cup at the time. The Greens scored 3 goals, conceding one, and moved into the next round.

Overall, the Greek team holds an unbeaten record of 4 wins, 3 draws, and 0 losses (4-3-0) against Scottish opposition. In addition to their clashes with Rangers, the Greens have faced Motherwell and Aberdeen in the past—securing victories in all encounters.

Rangers have a less favorable record against Greek teams, with 1 win, 5 draws, and 3 losses (1-5-3). Apart from their matches with Panathinaikos, they have also faced PAOK (1 win, 1 draw), Olympiacos (1 draw), and AEK Athens (2 losses).
